I missed most of the game last night as I was winning my very first official election. I was elected to the Board of Directors at the condo association where I live.
Were the Yanks just tired last night or did Cabrera have really good stuff?
The O’s could be the Tigers of this year, next year. Of course the O’s play in a much tougher division but the O’s could have a break through year next year.
Every team has a lot of ifs every year so I do not want to hear anything about all these ifs.
IF Bedard stays healthy and continues to develop, Cabrera can throw strikes, Loewen has a good sophomore year, they sign a guy like Schmidt, the O’s could have a decent starting rotation. They will need to patch up the pen like every team in baseball has to do.
Hernandez at C, Gibbons at 1B, Roberts at 2B, Tejada at SS, Mora at 3B, Markakis in RF plus a few free agent signings (maybe Carlos Lee?) is a pretty good lineup.
Now I know the O’s are not going to win 100 games next year but they do have the pieces in place to make a good run at the wild card and win 90 games.
BTW, even if you are not an O’s fan, Camden Yards is a great place to see a ball game.

If you aren’t one of the lucky fans who has already purchased their tickets via their season ticket plan or if you weren’t lucky enough to win the lottery, Yankees tickets go on-sale to the general public tomorrow at 11am. Last year they only opened certain games online and sold tickets to games that did not exist and kept the fees. I think the attorney’s general office might have got wind of this Ticketmaster scheme and this year it looks like you will be buying options to a game that could at list as exist provided the Yankees win and they’ll give you back your fees. Assuming all this, what is the best way to get your tickets? Some people will call and continue to press redial, others take a half-day from work and go to the Stadium, but most of us will be at work will the processing sign in front of us waiting on our computer. So, what’s the best way to get your tickets online? Go to the Yankees.com website at 10:55; Continue to press refresh until the page changes and you can buy your tickets; Select your game; Pick up your seats and wait (Processing); Do not open other Windows and try to get other seats, wait until this job finishes. If you are at work and need to be in other application you can be, but be sure to keep an eye on the Window because you only have a minute once you ticket is accepted. There are no guarantee on getting the ticket, but I have found for best results only have one window open at a time trying to buy tickets, if you want to have another window going it’s best to do it on another computer and for even best results do it on another IP address. If you don’t know how to remotely control a computer at home then have an Aunt in Colorado try for you. Or hope the IT guy is a Yankees fan and that maybe he’ll help you out. Good luck getting your tickets. I hope to see you there… If happen to get tickets and you are looking to sell them to your fellow fans, let them know here by commenting. The only thing we ask is you keep the price reasonable…we do not support ripping off your fellow fan. JoltinJoe

The playoffs start next week and it looks like it will be the Yanks, A’s, Tigers and Twinkies making the playoffs.
Mr. Torre is having a tough time balancing going after the best record in the league and getting guys ready for postseason. I think home field advantage will be big for the Yankees. The AL team won the All-star game again this year so if the Yanks make it to the series, they will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. I guess the only playoff team with a threatening place to play are the Twinkies.
Ideally this is how I would like the see the playoffs go. Yanks over Twinkies in 4, Tigers over A’s in 5. Yanks over Tigers in 6. Yanks over Cardinals in 5.
Any thoughts on the A-rod to Angels trade talks???? If they Yanks do not get number 27 and A-rod chokes this off-season there will be some serious talks with the Angels (and other teams). Also, Manny being Manny I think has worn out its welcome in Beantown. Could you see the Angels getting Manny AND A-rod???? The Angels have the farm system to do both deals. Who would you want the Yanks to get if they traded A-rod to the Angels? Santana, Wood, group of prospects? The fallout question would be who would play 3rd next year for the Yanks?
Hopefully the Yankees win number #27, A-rod becomes Mr. October (I always root for the guys in pinstripes to do well, even if I am not the guys biggest fan) and the Yanks gear up for number 28 in the offseason with or without A-rod.

It is not a perfect way to win a division but baseball is a marathon and the Yankees just won the first leg of the marathon. Now 11 more wins in the postseason and all us Yankees fans will be dancing in the streets once again. Henn looked again like a fringe #5 starter or lefty reliever. He has good stuff, he just cannot (or seems afraid) to throw strikes in the big leagues. 3.2 IP, 3BB. What a season Bernie has had. .282 BA, 12 HR, 60 RBI, 28 2B. Will he be back next year? The Yankees played without 4 regulars last night so the 2 runs is not a huge surprise.
Is anyone else worried about Giambi’s injuries? Wrist injuries are tough (ask Sheff and Matsui) and even worse for a guy that relies on power. If Giambi is not 100% it could have a big domino effect on the lineup. The one hope is that Sheff learns to play 1st real quick (won’t take much to be at the level of Giambi defensively) and hits like Giambi would if he was healthy. A lineup of Damon. Jeter, Abreu, Rodriguez, Matsui, healthy Sheff, Posada, 75% Giambi, Cano would not be that bad at all. Use Wilson and Cabrera as defensive replacements if needed. What team are you most afraid of the Yankees playing this postseason? For the AL race I would have to say the A’s. They have very good pitching and good pitching will almost always beat good hitting. If Liriano was healthy I would say the Twins. No team in the AL really scares me like the Angels do. In the NL I would least like to see the Mets. They have a former Torre understudy as manager (so he will know Torre’s style) and they have a very talented team. But ya never know with the playoffs and the Yankees have to take it one game at a time no matter who they play. Stevereno

O.K. I kinda always knew the AAA Yanks team were not coming to Hartford but I guess it is now official. They will be playing in Wilkes-Barre for at least the next 2 years.
The good news is I have cousins that live out that way so I see some AAA games in the future. Maybe next year I can cathc a glimpse of Tyler Clippard, Phillip Hughes, Bronson Sardhina, Eric Duncan and crew.

The Yankees won their sixth in a row last night with a make shift starting rotation and outfield. There are a lot of things I can say about last nights game – Derek Jeter extended his hitting streak to 23 games; Matsui crushed his first homer since returning; Darrell Rasner pitched four innings of lights out baseball (possibly the answer to the Yankees long relief question mark); Kevin Thompson continues to look like another outstanding prospect with a sweet swing for a right handed hitter and solid defense. But all these things were only side notes. This game was about two out hitting and guys in the line-up picking each other up.
It started with the captain getting a clutch two out RBI single in the 5th inning that extended the inning and allowed the Yankees to tie the game. But the key to this game was in the 7th inning when we had our captain, our MVP at the plate with one out one and a guy on third. Everyone in the stadium and at home thought Jeter would at least get the run home like he always does, but instead he struck out. Baseball game is about pick-me ups. Cano came up next and lined a double into the left field corner that went off the glove of the speedy Crawford. Giving the Yanks a 6-4 lead and then A-Rod tacked on a run with a nice piece of situational hitting driving in Cano with a solid single to right field. It’s amazing how much fun baseball is to watch when you see a team coming together and picking each other up. As long as the Yankees continue to do this like they have all year (they’ve batted around 36 times this year) they are destined to be World Champion because they truly are the best team as opposed to a lumping together of the best individuals. Cashman and Torre deserve a lot of credit this year. And George deservers credit for staying back and letting the pros do their job.

We all know how awesome the current Yankees team is but what about the future Yankee greats? Here is a really good website about the Yankees minor league system. http://www.yankeesprospects.com. You can check on guys like Ian Kennedy, Tyler Clippard, J.B. Cox, Phillip Hughes, Joes Tabata, Austin Jackson Bronson Sardinha….. If these names are foreign to you, go root for the Pirates.
