Yanks pummel O’s

This is what the Yankees should have done at least once over the last 2 days. Joba is really developing into a very good starter.

Abreu is a lot like A-rod. He piles it on during routs. Hos overall numbers will alsway look very good at the end of the year but he is not worth 16 million a year.

Big series against the Halos coming up. This is a statement series so hopefully the Yanks will rise to the occasion like they did in Bawston. Ponson cannot be starting Friday. Please call up Kennedy or make a trade.

Yanks acquire Pudge

Wow, the Yanks have picked up Pudge for Farnsworth. I guess they really feel Marte, Ramirez, Veres and Robertson can hold down the 8th and 9th. Unless they have another move up their sleeve.

I think it is a very good trade. Both guys will be free agents next year and Pudge is a major upgrade from Molina. This also allows them to DFA Moeller and open up a roster spot.

I give the trade an A-.

What the Funk

Lose 2 in a row at home to the Orioles??? The Yanks cannot be losing games like this at home to a bad team this late in the season. They have the Angels coming in right after the Orioles series. They also have a lot of road games to finish the season.

Plus the Sawx have lost 2 in a row and the Yanks could be in first place in the wild card and a couple games out of first if they won that lasy 2 nights.

At least they are winning today 3-1 in the 1st. Thsi team drives me nuts sometimes.

I wonder what their plans are for the #4 and #5 spots in the rotations They cannot survive with both Ponson and Rasner.

Wang had his cast removed and will rehab for about 5-6 weeks. Hopefully he can get 4 starts in September and be ready for the playoffs. Pettite and Moose may wear down late in the season and getting a fresh, good arm will be a boost.

Pavano pitched 2 innings at A ball last night. Will he contribute in September? I think he has burned so many bridges he will never see Yankee stadium again in a Yankees uniform. Good riddance.

Can’t win them all

I think we all saw this coming last night. Would have been real nice to sweep the Sawx in Fenway but they are too good of a team, especially with sir sidney pitching.

Get rid of Ponson, he is useless. Rasner is younger and a better pitcher. Ponson had his run but does not belong in the bigs anymore. Trade for Washburn, give Kennedy another shot or heck, try Igawa again.

The Yanks need to beat up on a bad O’s team tonight. Let’s go Moose. Is Moose making a statement for a call to the hall with this years performance? He may get close to 300 wins and 3000 SO. Or does he deserve to be in the hall of the very good?

Trade Grade revisited

Well it looks like McCutchen and Kartsens are part of the trade and not Kontos and Coke.

I still give the trade a B+. Kontos is 23 and in AA so he projects pretty similar to McCutchen who is 26 and at AAA. Kartsens and Coke is also a push. Coke is a #3-#4 starter or could be a lefty reliever. Kartsens is a lot like Rasner so we will not miss him.

The Yanks still have a lot of very good young arms in the minors so overall, the trade was a very good one. If you like folowing Mac names, there is a kid at Tampa, McCallister who is 20 and having a great year. Could be with the Yankees in 2010 at 22.

Keep dem wins coming

8 in a row after the break. 1 game out of the wild card. 3 out of the AL East. Would be real nice to sweep the Sawx tonight at Fenway. Sunday night, nationally televised game, Ponson vs. Lester. All things point to a Sawx win but hopefully the Yanks can get #9 in a row.

Did anyone see Meachem’s intro during the Fox game? Abreu, most underrated? He is a good hitter but to this day I have not seen him make a nice catch in RF. He is not worth 16 million a year. Melky and up and coming star? I love Melky and root for him but this is his 3rd full year and he is batting .250. He is still I think around 24 so he can still develop, but up and coming star, uh, no. Finally, I love Jeter but Michael Young is just as good of a SS in the AL so Jeter is not the best SS in the AL East. Maybe this is why Meachem is an average 3rd base coach at best.

I will be in Bean town for a conference Monday through Thursday. If the Yanks win tonight, I may have to wear my Yanks cap around town.

Trade Grade

Nady and Marte for Tabata, Ohlendorf, Kontos and Coke. I follow the Yankee minor leagues a lot. Check out yankeesprospoects.com for good box scores and yankees.scout.com for a subscription site with great minor league news.

I rate the trade a B+. Nady is a good RH bat that has a contract through 2009. Marte is the type of lefty reliever the Yanks need to neutralize lefties.

Tabata was starting to remind me too much of Ruben Rivera or Jackson Melian. He is 20 and has a boat load of talent so he could develop into a very good OF for the Pirates.

I really liked Ohlendorf but like Tabata, you have to give up something to get something.

Kontos and Coke are good arms but do not project better than a #3 or #4 at best in a MLB rotation.

This trade shows how deep the Yankees minor league system is right now. Between Ramirez, Veres, Robertson already making a statement in the bigs and guys like Melancon, Cox, Horne, Hughes, Kennedy, Marquez, Betances, Alfredes and others in AAA and AA the Yanks could unload the 3 arms. They also have Jackson at AA plus Curtis, and others.

This trade really strengthens the team for the final stretch but does not sacrifice a lot of talent. Overall, very good trade.

Lucky Number 7

7 in a row after the all-star break and looking good. BIG win last night. Joa was dominant and initimidated the Sawx by buzzing (I think I am the greatest) Youkillis. Now we just need to watch Papelbon tear an ACl doing his stupid Irish dance.

A 1-0 win at Fenway are very very very few and far between. For Joba to go 7 shutout in a very tough environment is a sign he is growing up.

I am still worried about the hitting but Beckett is a very good pitcher. Just win baby as Mr. Davis once said.

2 games out of the wild card and 3 out of the AL East with 60 games to go. 40-20 the final part of the season and the Yanks finish with 97 wins. The best thing is they are looking like a team that can win tough games against tough teams.

Bawston

Big 3 games series at Fenway starts tonight. Joba versus Beckett. Is this the game Joba gives the Yanks 7-8 dominate innings?

I am not sure Posada rehabbing is a great idea. I think his shoulder injury will effect his hitting. The rehab for the shoulder surgery is 6 months so if he goes under the knife September 1st, he would be ready the middle of February. I think the plan is to use him during the trade deadline by saying, he we have Jorgie coming off the DL the beginning of August so we do not need another bat and will not look desperate in the trade market. Then if they can land a big bat and he cannot get healthy, 60 day DL him the beginning of September and he should be ready for next year.

The Yanks have a lot of good arms at AA and AAA so they should be able to land Washburn or a decent #4 if they want to.

Anyone else think Christain should be the backup OF. I am a big fan of Gardner but I think at this point in their careers, Christain is a better bench/runner type player. He is 28, Gardner is 25.

I am torn on Melky. I really like him but if he does not start hitting more and waving for the roll call, I may think he needs to go. Action Jackson is looking good in AA and may warrant a good hard look next Spring.

Anyone have an update on the new Stadium progress? And the Metro North train stop?

100 games down

Back from a very sunny and relaxing vacation.

55-45 with 62 games to go. If the Yankees go 42-20 (very possible) they will finish up with 97 wins which should at least get them a wild card spot.

They are en fuego right now and need another sweep today by beating up on the Twinkies. Day game, series against the Sawx coming up, hopefully the Yanks won’t go through the motions and lose 3-1.

Should the Yanks make a move? Do they need pitching and/or a bat?

Looks like Matsui and Posada are done for the year. No date for Wang’s return. Every team has to deal with injuries so I am not crying in my beer.

If the Yanks can somehow get an impact catcher (no idea where or who we would give up) and a decent #4 guy (heard a lot about Washburn since I returned from vaca) I think the Yanks will be good to go.

I am still waiting for Gardner to break out. In every league he starts off slow. Maybe 2009 will be his year in the bigs?

Gonna be a fun couple of months. Big series at Fenway this weekend. Need to put a hurtin on the Sawx.
