Mathematics

Until the Yankees are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs I will keep the faith.

On the play yesterday if you noticed after Jeter missed the ball he sulked and that enabled I believe it was Scutaro to get to third. Jeter is not perfect.

The game today, A-rod cut off a throw to home in the first and Jeter was not covering third.

Baseball is a game of fundamentals, the little things. The Yankees are not a fundamental team. They need some new blood in 2009.

Girardi has to stop being overly positive. It is getting old. Be truthful, the team and fans expect it.

These are not the J’s you are looking for

Terrible loss and a glimpse into the whole season.

Cano gets lazy in the field. Watch Pedroia for the Sawx play and watch Cano play defense. One guy has range, gets his jersey dirty, the other I do not think knows how to dive.

A-rod is not a great player. Great numbers yes, not a great baseball player. He cannot play in any kind of pressure. That equals not a great baseball player.

My faith has been shaken today.

28 games to go

Pavano won again last night and to my surprise, I woke up this morning and the world had not ended.

It was not a pretty win again but a very good won against a tough pitcher like Burnett. Plus theSawx and Rays won so a loss would have sent the Yankees farther back in the race.

6 in the wild card and 10.5 in the AL East. A 24-4 finish would be a magical end to Yankee Stadium II.

Rasner going today against Parrish. It may not be pretty but the Yankees need a big win today. I-rod catching a day game after a night game. Shows just how much Girardi is going for it.

Joba may be back next week but will be pitching out of the pen at first.

As of September 2nd it would be great if the Yankees could be 4 back. 3-0 this weekend and the Sawx go 1-2. Then a huge 9 game road trip where the team needs to go 7-2 to have any chance for the playoffs.

Believe.

Doctor, we have a pulse

29 games to go, 6 games out of a playoff spot. Yankees need to go 24-5 the rest of the way.

Big sweep needed at home versus the Blue Jays this weekend. Halladay and Burnett are lined up to pitch for the Jays so it will not be easy.

Big win yesterday but still too many warning signs. It is a shame Moose is pitching so well and not getting any W’s. Hopefully he can win 20 games this year.

The Sawx are a team that can be had this year. Beckett has a bum elbow, Lowell is out, Drew is out, Dice-K has been wild, bullpen is not very strong. A nice 8-2 run byt the yankes and 4-6 run by the Sawx and it is a playoff race again.

Is it over Johnny?

Fans of Rambo will know about it being over.

30 games left. 10.5 out in the Al East and 7 in the wild card.

The Yankees HAD to take at least 2 out of 3 to stay in the race. Now they are fighting just to not get swept. Ugh.

The Yankees need to go 25-5 the rest of the way to clinch a wild card spot. I still have faith.

It has been a tough year of transition while still trying to compete.

Lots of contracts come off the books, new stadium and Girardi will have a year under his belt. Abreu, Giambi, Betemit, Marte, Britton, etc. need to be gone next year. No more aging veterans whose best days are behiond them. No more fillers on the roster. Infuse some youth onto the team.

A rotation of a healthy Wang, Joba, Pettite and/or Moose and a big free agent signing will be a good start.

The bullpen with Ramirez developing and last night behind him Veras looks to be in decent shape. I still have faith in Robertson.

Have Matsui Full time DH. Move Nady to RF. Platoon at 1B. Have Gardner or Damon play CF.

If you follow the Yankees minor league teams you know they have major talent on the way. Keep the faith.

It’s the final count down…

32 games to go and all the marbles are on the line.

Huge series begins tonight against the Evil Nation. A sweep is much needed.

Pettitte is on the mound against Wakefield tonight. The stadium better be rocking to give Andy a boost.

Looking more and more like Wang will not be back until 2009. Joba is being brought back slowly which is a good thing but will not be back until 2 weeks at the earliest.

I am pushing for Chase Wright to get a chance and take Rasner out of the rotation. Rasner is a mop up guy or a AAAA guy. He had his run earlier this year but cannot be a main rotation guy right now. Maybe a #5 guy next year when the rotation should be back at full strength.

A rotation of rasner, Ponson and Pavano will take a miracle to get into the playoffs. Wright cannot be any worse than Rasner and he has pitched well in AA and AAA. Give the kid a second chance.

Believe.

Nice Road Trip

The 6 game road trip ended yesterday with the Yankees going 4-2. That 3-7 road trip a couple weeks back is going to haunt this team.

32 games to go, 5 games back in the Wild Card race and 9.5 in the Al East.

The Yankees better not forget about the Twinkies and White Sox. They are also in the hunt for a wild card position. Both teams are neck and neck with the Sawx.

It would be beautiful for get a sweep of the Sawx this week and be 2-3 games back (depending on how the Twinkies and White Sox play) in the wild card.

The Yankees really need to go 25-7 the rest of the way. Other teams in the race need to go about 20-12 for the Yankees to make the playoffs.

I think the Pavano win Saturday night and the win yesterday is starting to give the team an edge. Like hey, we may be able to win this thing.

Of course it was the O’s and the 3 games were not flawless but a sweep is a sweep and that is all that counts this late in the season.

The team really needs to finish strong at home in August. Ideally 6-0 but a 5-1 end will be nice.

The beginning of September is going to be real tough. 6 on the road against the Rays and Angels. By September 11th the Yankees need to be 2 games out of the wild card. They can still win the East because they have 6 games left against the Rays and if they go 5-1 against them, they could pull out the East.

Believe.

Pavano gets a W

I woke up this morning and the world hasn’t ended. I was shocked. First Pavano survived getting to the mound. Then he goes 5 decent innings and the Yankees get another much needed win.

The Yankees picked up a game against the Sawx but nothing against the Rays as they won again. A Yankee win today and a Sawx loss and the Yankees are only 4 games back. 2 out of 3 at the stadium during the week and the Yanks are 3 games back. Ok, I am getting way ahead of myself.

Matsui is looking better but he is still flying way open when he hits. He has hit 2 home runs but is I think 3 for 17/18 since returning from the DL. He is an all or nothing guy right now. Hopefully he can get his timing back and start hitting for average too.

I-rod needs to get it going lower in the lineup. He is a .300 career hitter and needs to start powering the number 7-9 spot in the lineup.

Believe.

Thoughts on Biden? Interesting pick for Obama.

34 games to go

Nice win last night. The Yankees need a sweep this weekend at all costs.

The Sawx and the Rays won last night so it is still 6 in the wild card and 10.5 in the Al East. Looks more and more like the Rays will win the AL East. Who woulda thunk it. Everything has come together nicely for them this year. If the O’s can learn anything, they shoulod watch how that organization has changed so positively since new ownership took over I think about 3 years ago.

Pavano goes today. Armageddon tomorrow. Wow, I never thought I would ever see Carl “my pinky toe hurts” Pavano throw another pitch for the Yankees. If he gets knocked around today, he may never be able to show his face ever in New York.

He will be wearing the pinstripes so I will be rooting for him to go 6 shutout innings. What worries me is he had TJ surgery only about 14 months ago and 18 months is when you feel 100%. Maybe he can grind out 5-6 very good starts and propel the Yankees to the playoffs.

26-8 the rest of the way. Believe.

Toronto Argonauts 14, New York Giants 3

Chance to pick up a half game last night in the standings and the Yankees get creamed. Five up 3 runs in the first 2 games of the series and then 14. Is this team wildly inconsistent or is it me?

Pavano starts Saturday. Is the end of the world soon?

I am not saying it is over but I may start seeing little piggies flying soon. The Yankees need a sweep this weekend. 35 games to go and they need to go 29-6. With a rotation of Rasner, Pavano and Ponson the Yankees will need a few miracles on the way.

6 games behind the Sawx, they need to sweep them next week at the Stadium. If they are not 2-3 games out by Labor Day it is going to be a tough fight to get to the playoffs.

Lets go Moose tonight. Team needs a 10 game win streak.

Believe.
