I have seen this name on the free agent list and it peeked my interest. I know the Yankees have a full stock of corner outfielders and Abreu is a similar player. So I decided to go to baseballreference.com (which is a great baseball website) to check out Mr. Ibanez.
His numbers the last 7 years for the Royals and Mariners. Very similar to Abreu. Then I looked at his age, he will be 37 next year. It took him until 30 to settle into a full time playing career.
I still think he should be on the Yankee radar in case that Abreu wants too many years or too much money. Ibanez might be a nice 2 year pickup for the right price.
I am not sure about his defense or his character but he may be that “blue collar” fit the Yankees are looking for.
That hot stove is heating up nicely.
Check out mlbtraderumors.com for a good free website that tracks rumors throughout baseball.

I heard on the fan this morning that the Mets need more blue-collar type players. It got me thinking, how many guys in the major leagues, making millions of dollars, are blue collar type players? What type of a players is exactly “blue collar”?
And if there are any blue collar type, hard nose, players in the big leagues, not too many teams are just going to give them away.
I hear a lot that the Yankees need these blue collar type players. Guys like Brosius, O’Neill, Tino, etc. The cure for the team are blue collar players. If only it was that easy.
In other news. Pitchers Hacker and De La Rosa were added to the 40 man roster. De La Rosa is a 23 y/o lefty who used to be an outfielder who could not hit. He may be a pretty good lefty reliever one day. Hacker is 25 and was finally healthy last year. He has the potential to be a decent #3-4 starter. He will probably be at AAA this year. De La Rosa will probably pitch in AA.
Because of limited 40 man roster spots, the Yankees will have some decent talent exposed in the rule 5 draft. It is a catch 22. The system is deep which is good but it also means players could be lost to the rule 5 draft.
